The Best Views of Bruges from the Top of the Belfry

As I mentioned in my first post about Bruges (here), this city completely stole my heart. I can even pinpoint the moment that I fell in love with this picturesque city, and that would be standing at the very top of the Belfry Tower (or Belfort). The Belfry is a medieval bell tower in the historical center of Bruges and is one of the city’s most prominent symbols.

For an entrance fee (8 euros for adults with discounts for youth and seniors), you can climb 366 steps to the top of the Belfry for panoramic views of the city. Although, the stairs are no joke.. around and around we went and the closer you get to the top the more narrow the stairs get. There are different floors to get out at on the way up that have information about the Belfry which offers a much needed break from climbing stairs.

Regardless of the stairs, trust me, the entrance fee and the climb are definitely worth it because the view from the top is breathtaking! Standing at the top with the tower bells chiming right next to us, gazing out across the gorgeous city of Bruges – life couldn’t get much better!

One of my favorite things to do when I’m exploring a new city is view it from above. It gives you a whole new perspective and allows you to see the city for miles in all directions. The top of the Belfry Tower offers 360 degree panoramic views of one of Belgium’s most spectacular cities.

Bruges is an easy city to love with its romantic, fairy-tale like ambiance. Strolling along the cobblestone streets, it amazes me that every corner holds an even more picturesque view than the last. If I was only able to visit one Belgian city again, Bruges would definitely be it. If you’re in Bruges, don’t miss climbing the Belfry Tower because seeing the city from the sky gives you a fresh perspective on this medieval treasure.
