[Photo Essay] Austrian Countryside

On my first European adventure almost four years ago, we drove from Florence to the state of Tyrol in western Austria and stayed in this little inn halfway up the side of a mountain. We only got to stay in Austria for one night but still to this day, it remains one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever been. It was like a scene out of the Sound of Music- small houses scattered across the countryside, rolling hills littered with trees, and towering mountains all around. There’s really no better way to communicate the beauty of Austria than with pictures so without further ado..

If you get the chance to take a road trip through the Austrian countryside definitely go! It’s by far some of the most spectacular scenery I’ve ever witnessed.

Have you ever driven through the Austrian countryside? Where is the most beautiful place you have ever been? I would love to hear what you think- leave your thoughts in the comments below!

  1. Austria is without doubt very nice, equally Switzerland. The French Alps and the Pyrenees are also stunning, but the most beautiful place to me will always be the mountains of Snowdonia in my country, Wales…because that is home and where my heart will forever be! 🙂

    • Road trips are the perfect way to see the countryside! You miss so much beauty hopping from big city to big city. Austria is a gorgeous country, I need to get back there to do some hiking.

  2. I spent a week in Tirol few years ago. Had to go there for a course which was held in the town of Galtür..the gorgeous scenery pretty much made you forget all the hassle of traveling there. I think it was in September, which appears to be off season, so accommodation was ridiculously cheap.. Although almost everything i.e. cafes and such were closed. But the mountains were there, so who cares 😉

    • I totally understand that! I could spend days and days just exploring the mountains. The scenery is definitely some of the most gorgeous I’ve ever seen. We made several wrong turns trying to get to our little inn halfway up the mountain but it was worth it, just to get to see a little more of the countryside. Austria is on the top of my list of places I want to go back and spend more time. Thanks so much for reading 🙂

    • My brief trip through Austria seems so long ago too! I’m definitely in need of a trip back. The Alps are gorgeous in the summer and I’m equally as eager to see them in the winter since I love to snowboard! Thanks for reading, James 🙂
